More About Our Services

How do you identify slip and fall hazards in my facility or home?

We begin with a walk through  to identify areas of risk and determine how best to mitigate any dangerous conditions we find. Often clients are already aware of particular dangers or have experienced a fall accident. Usually, we focus on entries, bathing and shower areas, kitchens, and other areas subject to water and other liquid spills.  This can involve tribometer testing when needed. Based on our observations we offer advice and resources regarding policies and practices to reduce slip, trip and fall hazards. If any of our products or treatment services could be helpful we test sample areas and prepare a formal proposal for your consideration.

How do you test to determine whether surfaces are unsafe?

Often it is obvious that surfaces are unsafe. In situations where a more precise determination is needed, we use a tribometer to determine the level of slip resistance. Dynamic Coefficient of Friction (DCOF) is a measure of how slippery a surface is. The ANSI (American National Standards Institute) states a 0.42 DCOF is the minimum safety standard for floors. DCOF is measured using a device called a tribometer. We use the state-of-the art BOT3000e tribometer–the only ANSI approved tribometer for accurate DCOF testing.  After Sure Step product application, the BOT3000e print-out provides you a written confirmation that your floors meet safety requirements.

How do your non-slip treatments work?

We use the Sure Step non-slip line of products for non-slip surface treatments. Sure Step is a long lasting chemical treatment which creates an invisible pattern in the surface of most hard mineral surfaces. These include ceramic tile, concrete,  marble, granite, terrazzo, porcelain, enamel and many others. It is effective for both indoor and outdoor surfaces. We also have alternative non-slip treatments for most other surfaces as well.

Sure Step treatments increase the coefficient of friction, especially when a floor or other surface gets wet. This higher coefficient of friction makes it dramatically more slip-resistant and greatly reduces the risk of slip and fall injuries. Sure Step treatment is applied as a liquid and then thoroughly and safely removed, leaving no residue, film or coating. The treatment does not change or alter the appearance of the treated surface. Sure Step is an ideal solution for areas prone to slip and falls–entries, kitchens, bath rooms, pool surrounds, etc. To learn more, visit Sure Step.

How long is the non-slip treatment effective?

Floors, bathtubs and showers treated with Sure Step can be expected to demonstrate slip resistance for one to five years (and often much longer) depending on foot traffic and other wear.

How much do your treatments and services cost?

All of our evaluation and testing services are free. For our surface treatments using Sure Step nonslip, cost depends on the condition and the size of the area to be treated. Typically, costs range from $1.50 to $3.00 per square foot. Other products and services vary in cost. We are happy to visit your facility or home, assess your needs, and make a proposal if appropriate.

What warranty or guarantee do you offer?

In most situations, the non-slip surface treatments last for many years. Commercial surface treatments are warrantied to maintain increased slip resistance for a least one year.  Residential applications are warranted for up to five years. We check effectiveness periodically during the warranty period and additional treatments are applied if needed in high traffic areas.
